AutoCAD Structural Detailing 2012 Workflows

I thought I would share a couple of workflow diagrams I have been working on for ASD, both for steel fabrication and RC Detailing. As Autodesk improve the interoperability between various software, having a workflow is very important. The workflows can utilise ASD as a stand-alone product or can incorporate Revit Structure and Navisworks or even design tools such as Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis. The process diagrams are numbered so you can follow a logical path and options are coloured in red. The options are typically when you need to pass 2D or 3D data back into Revit Structure.

  1. Great! Just Great! I was looking for this for 3 years.
    Autodesk has made important steps towards interoperability between Revit, ASD and Robot. The export of analytical model from RST 2011 to Robot was a nightmare. Tousands of errors, wrong nodes connection etc. The 2012 version is A LOT better. Hope that the 2013 version will have a better connection between RST and Robot (unless they abandon the RSA development).
    A problem I faced with export from Revit to ASD is the lack of the grid. Maybe you could adjust your scheme: Create the grid in ASD, export to Revit, create the model and re-export to ASD for detailing. (not tested)


    1. Hi lucian,

      Glad you found the workflows useful. The grid does not transfer either way which is a bit of a pain. ASD uses a different type of grid system to Revit and is not parametric so if you change the grid the members will not uipdate. It does however transfer to Robot.

  2. After I initially commented I appear to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now every time a comment is added I recieve 4 emails with the same comment. There has to be an easy method you are able to remove me from that service? Thanks!
